Liver Pathology and Gastrointestinal Pathology

Liver is an organ pathologists, radiologists are pretty good at sorting-out many types of liver lesions. Liver neoplasms are dealt within the Liver Pathology. Liver filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. Viral infection is the common form of liver disease. Viral hepatitis such as hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus can be vertically transmitted during birth via contact with infected blood.

Gastrointestinal Pathology includes liver, gallbladder and pancreas. It is the subspeciality of Surgical Pathology in which examination and characterization of neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the digestive tract is done. It determines diagnostic histopathology on gastrointestinal endoscopic biopsies and resections of the gastrointestinal and pancreatico-biliary systems.
